SUMMER SMOOTHIES
A flexible formula for cool, nourishing summer days
Build a Smoothie That Holds You
Use this as a simple template when you want something cold, quick, and satisfying. The goal is a smoothie with fruit, color, fiber, protein, and enough staying power to act like a small meal or recovery snack.
Smoothie Formula
1 Fruit: 1 cup frozen fruit plus 1/2 frozen banana for texture
2 Vegetable: 1/2 cup frozen riced cauliflower or 1 to 2 handfuls spinach
3 Protein: Greek yogurt, milk, soy milk, or a third-party-tested protein powder
4 Fat: 1 to 2 Tbsp nut butter, 1/2 avocado, chia, hemp, or ground flax
5 Liquid: 1 1/2 to 2 cups coconut water, milk, soy milk, iced green tea, or water
Midlife-Friendly Tweaks
For better staying power, avoid fruit-only smoothies. Add protein and fat. For GLP-1 days or low appetite, make a smaller portion and prioritize protein first. For workouts, keep it simple: fruit, fluid, and protein after longer or harder sessions. For blood sugar steadiness, pair sweet fruit with yogurt, milk, soy milk, nut butter, seeds, or protein powder.
Quick Flavor Boosters
Mint, lime juice, cocoa powder, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, or a pinch of salt. For sweetness, start with banana or dates before adding honey or syrup.
Peachy Peppermint Smoothie Ingredients
1 cup frozen peaches
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen riced cauliflower
1 to 2 handfuls fresh spinach
1/3 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
1 Tbsp almond butter
3 pitted dates
1 1/2 cups water
10 to 12 mint leaves or 1/8 tsp peppermint extract
Preparation
Blend on high for several minutes until smooth.
Yield: about 24 oz
Smart Freezer Tips
Keep frozen riced cauliflower on hand. Add 1/2 cup to any smoothie for extra nutrients, mild flavor, and a creamy texture. Frozen avocado chunks are also useful for a fiber and heart-healthy fat boost, especially when fresh avocados are fussy. Find riced cauliflower with frozen vegetables and avocado chunks near the frozen fruit.
Sunny Tropical Smoothie Ingredients
1 cup frozen mango chunks or tropical fruit blend
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 ripe avocado or 1/2 cup frozen avocado chunks
1/2 cup frozen riced cauliflower
1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
Juice of 1 to 2 limes
1 1/2 to 2 cups coconut water
Preparation
Blend until creamy. Use less coconut water for a thicker texture.
Yield: about 24 oz
Texture Tip
Coconut water adds fluid plus electrolytes, especially potassium, which can be helpful after sweating on hot days. Use 1 1/2 cups for thicker texture or closer to 2 cups for easier sipping.
Chocolate Berry Smoothie Ingredients
1 1/2 cups frozen berries
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen riced cauliflower
1/3 cup plain whole milk yogurt
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 to 2 Tbsp nut butter
1 1/2 cups oat, almond, soy, or dairy milk
Preparation
Blend on high until the cocoa is fully mixed and the texture is smooth.
Yield: about 24 oz
Plant Milk Notes
Dairy milk and soy milk are usually highest in protein. Oat milk gives a creamier texture. Almond milk is lighter and often fortified with calcium and vitamin E. Choose the option that fits your taste, budget, and nutrition goals.
Protein and balance options
Protein Powder
Use protein powder as a tool, not a requirement. It can help when appetite, time, or recovery needs make whole-food protein harder.
Look for
About 20 to 30 g protein per serving when using it as a meal replacement
5 g or less added sugar per serving
Third-party testing: NSF Certified for Sport, USP Verified, Informed Choice or Informed Sport, or ConsumerLab.com Approved

Detox, fat-burning, miracle, or proprietary blend claims

Make It Yours
Swap fruit, greens, liquid, and protein based on what you have. Keep the formula steady: color, fiber, protein, fat, and fluid.
